Nobody cares for us, cry 300 Kashmiri students stuck in Iran
Worried parents petition External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar at KICC Sgr, get assurances only

Srinagar, Mar 09: The students from different parts of Kashmir studying in Iran Monday said that they continue to remain stuck as nobody cares for them despite their repeated pleas for evacuation.

According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the students also held meeting with the officials from Indian embassy and pressed for their main demand of immediate evacuation but so far nothing has happened on ground.

Interestingly, the External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, who paid a surprise visit to Srinagar, held discussion with the parents of the students stuck in Iran at Kashmir International Convention Centre (KICC), on the banks of world famous Dal Lake, assured the parents that “students stuck in Iran will be evacuated soon.” As per parents, the Union Minister didn’t give any deadline or a time frame for the safe evacuation of almost 300 students pursuing career in Iran.

Students told KNO over phone that none of them has been evacuated nor screened so far. “We are almost 300 students and all are literally confined to their hostels and other places,” they said.

Masooma Rizvi, one of the medical student stuck in Tehran said that almost none of the students has been evacuated from Tehran or screened so far.  “None has been screened so far within Tehran. Officials are prioritizing pilgrims here. No instructions have been issued for the evacuation of students till now,” she said.

She said that they had a brief meeting with Indian embassy officials on Sunday at Tehran but no action has been initiated.  Meanwhile, Shabir Hussain, a parent, whose daughter is pursuing MBBS at Iran, was one among the parents who met External Affairs Minister at KICC.

“We have been assured that Kashmiri students will be evacuated. The Union Minister only gave us assurances nothing else. No deadline or a fixed date was set for the safe return for our children from Iran,” he said—(KNO).
